Gurgles – Saturday 27th February 2016

For our next event we are delighted to welcome Bradford-based band Gurgles as hosts for the evening. They will be choosing the records they love and that have influenced their own, unique sound. We’re also hoping that the band will join us for our March edition of the Record Club radio show on BCB Radio.

Screen Shot 2016-02-05 at 19.07.29Gurgles describe themselves as “Bradfordprogpop” and features Gus Bousfield (also of Mucky Sailor, ex of Nope and the writer of a myriad of music for tv and radio), Nanette Brimble and Bradley Cunningham… Continue reading Gurgles – Saturday 27th February 2016

Electronic January 2

Electronic January

Let’s be honest, January can be a bit ‘meh’.

Good job there’s Electronic January 2 to look forward to on the 30th!

Hurrah!

Last year’s celebration of all things electronic was a great night, and we had a lot of fun. It seemed like a very good idea to repeat the exercise, so here we are, back for Round 2.

No albums. Free play all night. Bring what you want as long as it’s bleepy and beepy, and on glorious vinyl.

Record Club at The Movies – 28th November 2015

Record Club at the Movies
With some very high profile cinematic releases happening over the next few months, we thought it was high time that Record Club went  to the movies.  After all, Bradford *is* the first UNESCO City of Film and has a proud cinematic heritage. We also share our home with the fine Shipley Film Society. There really was no excuse!

Heaven and Hell 31st October 2015

Heaven and Hell

With Record Club’s October event falling on Hallowe’en this year we thought we’d put our own spin on the ghosts and ghoulies theme by holding a Heaven & Hell night, as we set out to discover whether the devil really does have all the best tunes or, as the Pixies put it, “In Heaven, everything is fine…”

Vet Sounds – Saturday 26th September 2015

Vet Sounds 26th SeptemberReturning refreshed after the summer break, our next event will be Vet Sounds, or animal based music if you’d prefer.

Our central album will be Commune from Swedish fusion experimentalists Goat. Described as engimatic, psychadelic and astonishing, this album is also on “crazy splatter vinyl” and has been put forward by RC regular Andy. We’ll make sure we get a few pictures of that on the facebook page, for sure. We love a crazy splatter vinyl record at Record Club.

That won’t be all, of course… Continue reading Vet Sounds – Saturday 26th September 2015

Merseybeat and the Sounds of Liverpool – 25th July 2015

Merseybeat and the sound of LiverpoolThe next in our irregular city-based themed nights will be about Liverpool on Saturday 25th July.

Named by The Guinness Book of Records as the City of Pop and by a 2008 Arts Council survey as the UK’s most musical city, Liverpool has a rich, varied and massively influential musical history.  While the Fab Four will obviously spring to mind when thinking about the city’s musical pedigree, the list of bands and artists that have contributed to Liverpool’s reputation stretches wider than the Mersey. Pop Up Record Club Saturday 11th July 2015

Screen Shot 2015-07-04 at 19.22.51

Record club pops up for the first time!

We’ve plotted long and hard to try holding a pop-up record club and now the first one is coming. It’ll be at Shipley’s The Triangle, home of beer, art and vinyl, on Saturday 11th July from 2 to 4 pm.

There’s no theme this time, just bring along any interesting records you’d like others to hear. Of course we may also have a chance to plunder Triangle’s stock! The Triangle is usually takeaway only but they’ll have a full license that day, so it’ll be a great opportunity to listen, drink a beer and browse their selected pre-owned vinyl. Undercover – 25th April, 2015 8pm

Our April record club meeting gives us a chance to listen to music as covered by other artists, with a bit of a focus on David Bowie. Have they brought out new fresh insights … or just destroyed the strengths of the originals? Tonight you’ll hear David Bowie cover his favourite UK artists from 1964-1967 in the first of two planned Bowie 1960’a nostalgia albums (the second never surfaced). You’ll also hear renowned drummer Dylan Howe’s recent take on Bowie’s 1970’s Berlin period. The third album choice have tracks that cover the full gamut of weird, wonderful and Wet Wet Wet. And of course there are the tracks that *you* will be bringing along…?
