Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow – Saturday 4th March 2023

Our second event of 2023 is nearly upon us.

Bring along some vinyl to play on the theme of Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. Perhaps your troubles seemed so far away… was today a fairytale… but then again tomorrow never knows?

Upstairs at The Triangle from 8pm. See you there!

Tales of the Unexplained – Saturday 4th February 2023

After taking a break in January we’re back at the Triangle for our first event of 2023 – Tales of the Unexplained.

We could have waited until Hallowe’en to do a spooky night but when you come up with the idea of doing something about monsters, mysteries and mayhem there’s no time like the present.

So get digging into collection for the weirdest, most mysterious, most MONSTROUS vinyl you can find. As ever, we like to play fast and loose with the theme, so don’t get too hung up if you think it doesn’t count. We’d rather hear it than not. We’ll be upstairs at The Triangle, hiding behind the sofa, from 8pm. See you there.

March 2022 at The Record Club. Events, Radio, Beer Festivals and Record Fairs! Hold on to your hats, Shipley!!

March is a really busy month for Record Club. There’s lots to tell you about and we hope you can get involved in at least some of what is going on in the next few weeks. So, without further ado…

Monthly event at The Triangle – Saturday 5th March

We are now back up running every first Saturday of the month at our regular home, The Triangle in Shipley.

We are keeping things simple while we continue to find our feet so this will be another unthemed night.Just bring along a few of your favourite records to play to an appreciative audience. Or if you fancy just kicking back and having a listen and a chat with your mates over a drink, that’s good too.

The wheels of steel start turning around 8pm and we finish around 11pm. You can find us upstairs and the bar is downstairs!

Record Club on BCB Radio – Tues 8th & Thurs 10th March

Two shows for you this month, you lucky things…

On Tuesday 8th March we will be broadcasting an International Women’s Day special on BCB Radio. This went down a treat a few years ago and presenters Katie, Judith, Jen & Anne-Marie have finally been persuaded back behind the mic for a much-anticipated 2022 follow up. Not to be missed.

As a result, our regular 4-weekly show is being moved back from its usual Tuesday slot by a couple of days to 9pm on Thursday 10th March. This month’s theme for Rob & Will to explore is Real People.

Record Club at Sup, Shipley Market Square – Saturday 12th March

We’re pleased to be supporting this local Beer Festival showcasing a “top notch array of beer, food and eclectic music”. Shipley legends The Triangle, The Fox, Cap and Collar and The Salt Beer Factory will be supplying the beer while amazing food will come from Hullabaloo, Mozzafella and Il Pirata.

And as a bonus between 12pm and 2pm Tony and Darren, two Record Club regulars, will be providing the eclectic music element from the DJ stage under the guise of “some of West Yorkshire’s Finest DJs”. No pressure, fellas!

It’s an event not to be missed, all undercover under a “stretchy tent” running all day from 12pm and well into the evening until 10pm. For more info follow @supbfd on Instagram.

Saltaire Record Retro Fair, The Caroline Club, Saltaire – Saturday 19th March

And to cap off a hectic March we also have the not-so-small matter of the Saltaire Record & Retro Fair at The Caroline Club.

Now in it’s 4th year under the stewardship of The Record Club and jam packed with stalls, records and pop culture ephemera. We’re really chuffed with the support we get from everyone for these fairs, stall holders and public alike, and we can’t wait to see you again for some top-notch crate digging.

As usual, various Record Club folk will be supplying the soundtrack from a tiny corner of the stage and the Caroline Club bar will be open too. Doors open at 10am, it’s free entry, and we’ll bidding you farewell at 3.30pm.

Phew! We did say there was lots going on. Hope you can join us along the way! And keep an eye on our twitter, instagram and Facebook feeds for more info.

Saltaire Festival 2018 Pop Ups – Saturday 8th September

It’s Saltaire Festival time again and for the third year running, as part of the opening weekend Open Gardens event, we’ll be popping up around the village asking you to join us playing some fine vinyl.

This year we’ll be at wonderful Edward St Bakery from 9am before moving on to amazing Tambourine Coffee at 1pm and ending up at the excellent YardFest on Upper Ada St for 5pm. Check the poster for locations if you’re not a Saltaire regular.

We always have a laugh at these events and it’s really nice to meet people who come along with a few records to play or just to listen and hang around.

And like last year our massively popular Record Club badges will be available too.

Hope to see you there!

There’s music, food, comedy, stalls selling all manner of curiosities, bouncy castles, free tours of the fire station, and a general feeling of village-wide bonhomie, and this year, on the first Saturday of the whole shindig, there’s us…! Sampled – 30th April 2016

We dedicate this month to the the art of sampling and being sampled. For years musicians have experimented with using tape and records to loop music as part of their own composition but it was the advent of disco, hip hop and electronic dance music which brought it into the mainstream. Despite criticism from some circles that it lacks the creativity of “real music” it is now such an established tool in the studio and for live performance that it is hard to deny the positive impact it has had on modern music.

This month we welcome Steve Goodall who has selected an hour’s worth of material to play for us. He’s keeping his selections tightly under wraps for the time being, so make sure you get there in good time to hear his set.

We’ll also be playing an album which but would like your help to choose it. So we’ll be having a vote… Continue reading Sampled – 30th April 2016

Live in Shipley – Saturday 26th March 2016

Screen Shot 2016-03-06 at 16.11.16Live albums, eh. As artists become increasingly reliant on their live shows to bring in the cash a live album is the next best thing for hard up music fans who miss out thanks to rapidly increasing ticket prices and “secondary market entrepreneurs”.

But they’re tricky purchases even for the committed music fan. For every Nirvana Unplugged or The Who Live at Leeds there’s Having Fun With Elvis on Stage (just the talky bits from Elvis at various concerts… as an album) or Vanilla Ice Extremely Live.  Continue reading Live in Shipley – Saturday 26th March 2016
