We’re pleased to announce that BCB Radio’s Buffet (@buffetdisco) will be putting on a “nice Christmas spread” for Record Club. It’s a proper spread as you’d expect. It’s err… a Christmas cracker, if you will (sorry!). Here’s what they told us they have planned…..
Andrew Jackson Jihad – Christmas Island (2014)
The Christmas spread begins with some cutting, graphic, bonkers folk-punk from this lot, as we shouldn’t forget the lonely and miserable at this time of year. You have to listen to the lyrics to really appreciate it, but a holly jolly Christmas it definitely isn’t (in fact, these are not Christmas songs, it’s possible we’re cheating).
“Responsible for some of the most hilarious, terrifying and intellectually subversive music to come out of independent Americana in the last decade.” – Drowned in Sound.
Phil Spector – Christmas Album (1963)
Classic recordings of classics showcasing that immense 1960s girl-group sound. Featuring The Ronettes, The Crystals, Darlene Love and more, we dare you not to sing along…
Sufjan Stevens – Songs for Christmas (2006-2012)
Mr Stevens covers hymns and classics in his own inimitable style, as well as adding his own compositions to the mix which range from the sublime to the sardonic. This mix includes tracks from his two Christmas box sets – that’s TEN albums of Christmas music. (Suck it, Cliff). Did I make you cry on Christmas Day? Well you deserved it.
As well as the long players, there’ll be time for you to add your own records to the spread, plus we’ll be throwing in a few extra EPs and album tracks. We have to fit some Tijuana in somewhere, right? This is a Buffet!
So, don’t forget to come to Record Club’s first ever Christmas special. Saturday 6th December at the Kirkgate Centre in Shipley. 8pm
