Guitar Heroes – Saturday 2nd February 2019

Elvis was the guitar man, Ziggy played guitar, Bryan Adams got his first real six string at the five and dime, Bob Marley was jamming and Joan Jett loved her rock n roll…

This month we celebrate all that is great and good about the guitar and the heroes who provide their unforgettable sound. Six string or twelve (or maybe just four), from blues and acoustic, to rock, jazz and jangly pop – our night of guitar greats promises to be full of unforgettable riffs, rhythms and solos.

Noel is taking charge of this one. The evening will include a side each from two featured albums – Eric Clapton’s ‘Me and Mr Johnson’ (his tribute to the legendary guitarist Robert Johnson) and Joanne Shaw Taylor’s 2016 album ‘Wild’. Joanne is a British blues guitarist who has just been signed by Sony.

Each album will be followed by a short session of linked guitar based tracks. And of course there’ll be plenty of time in between for you to share your favourite guitar-based tunes on vinyl.

We crack on from 8pm upstairs at the Triangle, while downstairs you’ll find a cash/card bar stocking the finest selection of drinks known to mankind.

See you there!

New Year’s Revolutions in Dub – Saturday 5th January 2019

This new year we’re doing our roots, making a copy, stripping everything back and boosting the drums ‘n’ bass…

We’ll be looking at the reggae beginnings and wide reaching influences of dub music. Covering everything from punk, post-punk, drum and bass, techno, big beat and many, many other musical genres.

Plenty of opportunity for free play at this one so bring along your own dub-y vinyl to throw into this eclectic mix.

We kick off at 8pm upstairs at The Triangle, 47 Bradford Road, Shipley. The needle finally comes off the record at 11.30pm.

Home Sweet Home – Saturday 1st December

It’s that time of year again, when you and more than a million others race Chris Rea in a bid to get to that mystical of places, Home.

But before you brave the roads, rails or towpaths, join The Record Club in our own front room to enjoy an evening of vinyl, listening to and playing songs about home, family and everything in between. And as it’s December, the odd Christmas song wouldn’t be frowned upon. Tis the season to be jolly after all. To get you going, we’ll be playing The Family by Satchel in its entirety, but we’re sure Sly will bring his Family Stone, John Lennon will bring his Mother and Depeche Mode will come Home.

Pop-up at Record Café Sunday 25th November

We do love a good pop-up from time to time and have been promising to do this one for ages.

Recently celebrating it’s fourth birthday serving the finest in beers, charcuterie and vinyl, the Record Café is understandably a popular haunt for many a Record Clubber. So we were chuffed to be able to put this Sunday afternoon pop-up together.

The usual pop up rules apply. Turn up with some of your favourite vinyl and take turns to spin it for everyone’s entertainment. This time it’ll be a relaxed, Sunday afternoon vibe, ideal for winding down after some early Christmas shopping or just avoiding the Sunday lunch washing up…

Things get going from 1pm and we’ll look to wrap up by 5.30pm. Hope you can join us!

Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) – Saturday 3rd November 2018

DOTDead_RC

Each November all Mexico, and much of South America, celebrates Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead when spirits walk among us. Families light candles in graveyards and welcome the spirits with their favourite foods. But it’s not gloomy…

Colours – Saturday 6th October 2018

Colours_RC

Colours, eh. Kind of important. Otherwise, how would we know when to stop, when to go, when your enemy has surrendered, when to get really cross (if you are a bull), when you are jealous… You get the picture.

The resurgence of vinyl in recent years has also seen ever more inventive ways to market it and coloured vinyl has been one such tactic. So our colours night will be dedicated not only to colours but coloured vinyl.

Screen Shot 2018-09-23 at 16.40.57And meeting the brief perfectly is Beck and his most recent album, Colors, which we will be playing in full and in at least two different colours (if you have a copy which isn’t in red or yellow, bring it along). The rest of the evening will be dedicated to records, songs and artists which you have brought along on vinyl and which meet the theme. And if they are on coloured vinyl then of course that’s even better!

Think Purple Rain, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Black Tie White Noise, Orange Crush, Blue Moon, Grey Day, Pink Sunshine, Green Onions, Red Box, Indigo Girls, Brown Eyed Girl, Yellow Magic Orchestra… you get the picture.

Don’t have any vinyl? Don’t worry, bringing records along to Record Club events is definitely not a pre-requisite. Lots of people come along just to listen or catch up with friends. Records or not, you are very welcome.

We start at 8pm upstairs at The Triangle, 47 Bradford Road, Shipley. It’s free to get in and there’s a cash & card bar downstairs with a choice of the finest beers known to mankind (this is not an idle boast). We’ll likely lay on a few Indian snacks too.

See you there!

Saltaire Festival 2018 Pop Ups – Saturday 8th September

It’s Saltaire Festival time again and for the third year running, as part of the opening weekend Open Gardens event, we’ll be popping up around the village asking you to join us playing some fine vinyl.

This year we’ll be at wonderful Edward St Bakery from 9am before moving on to amazing Tambourine Coffee at 1pm and ending up at the excellent YardFest on Upper Ada St for 5pm. Check the poster for locations if you’re not a Saltaire regular.

We always have a laugh at these events and it’s really nice to meet people who come along with a few records to play or just to listen and hang around.

And like last year our massively popular Record Club badges will be available too.

Hope to see you there!
