Oktoberfest! Saturday 7th October 2017

oktoberfest bear

After several successful years in the Kirkgate Centre (many thanks again guys!), Record Club is changing venues to The Triangle with our first regular evening on Saturday 7th October from 8pm.

It’s open to all with no charge and we were looking for a suitably rousing theme to kick us off. Well, the nights are drawing in and leaves are beginning to fall to the ground, so it must be autumn and that can only mean… Oktoberfest!

We’ll be finding and playing music made by German artists or songs that celebrate Germany and all things Germanic. Of course it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without beer, so Triangle will have plenty of choices available and we will really love any songs about beer and drinking!

It’s going to be one of our popular “free-play” evenings, so anyone and everyone is welcome to put their records on the turntables, you don’t have to play a whole set of songs.

So, go search out that stash of old LPs, 7s, 12s (and anything in between) that you nearly forgot about and take a look through them. Any Kraftwerk in there? Tangerine Dream? Einstürzende Neubauten? Can? Nico? Trio (remember them?) Something from Bowie’s Berlin period, perhaps? Or Berlin the band, <cough> Boney M?  Err… Milli Vanilli? Perhaps you’ve got an old single of Nena’s “99 Luftballons”? Frankly, who doesn’t? So why not play it!

On the other hand, you may actually have lots of more interesting modern stuff or we’ll even accept (and probably applaud) some uplifting James Last orchestrations, the soothing keyboard stylings of Klaus Wunderlich or rowdy Oom-pah band music! Bring along your vinyl and share it with the crowd; it’s perfectly safe and no-one will ever criticise your choice of music.

8pm, 7th October at The Triangle, 47 Bradford Rd, Shipley. Wir sehen uns dort!
